A ‘Wimpy Kid' Dishes

"Imagine Larry David in middle school."

That sentence ended the written casting call for the role of middle-schooler Greg Heffley in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," the 20th Century Fox film released last year based on Jeff Kinney's best-selling "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book series.

Here's more of the casting description: "Slight and skinny, physically unprepossessing, not overly cute or precious with a quirky, memorable face. Greg is bright and articulate and prepossessed of a vivid fantasy life, but cursed by the fact that he's in middle school. Actor must have a flair for ironic comedy."

Zachary Gordon had that ironic Larry David flair.

Greg, after all, is essentially a cartoon stick figure. Although he has a tinge of flesh on his bony frame, Greg's most identifiable physical trait is a three-pronged cowlick. Transforming him into a living, breathing person wasn't easy. Zachary made it happen. Read More
