    agent representation?

An agent recently showed interest and offered representation in modeling, print and television, but no contract has been signed.  I have been told that this agency is one of the few that do not sign contracts until a job is booked.  The agency is reputable and we love the agent.  We are new to all of this, is this typical in this industry?

I don't think it's typical, but it is widespread that agents will commit to a verbal agreement pending work or a success path with a developmental child client.

Some kids never get launched and are out by the third audition because they lose interest or realize it's not as fun as it sounded to begin with!

I think that many agents will test the waters. Signing clients is time intensive.

What's the down side? That the agent shows a mediocre level of interest? Possibly.

More likely they just want to see that the child is excited and committed to doing well.

For me at CESD, we want our talent signed and want to show them our committment. I tend to sign from age 6 and up.

    Hope that helps!

    Hello,

I don' t find this particularly offensive or a problem at all - especially in this environment. Carol Lynn, agent can maybe better answer whether a child will truly get good attention and coverage, yet I believe they will despite the lack of a written agreement. Also, let's face it, most Agency or Management Agreements are designed to protect the Agency or Manager (although they do protect both) so I don't see a problem for the Talent.
